Red Fox Trail – Stonelick State Park Ohio
Red Fox trail is a 2 mile trail (excluding the connecting spur) that is fairly flat and wide.
The trail was well shaded, and I didn’t have to worry about sun stroke in the hot weather. Still drank a lot of water…
Each of the hiking trails have a trail map at the beginning. This is the standard map posted outside the trail. To get to the red fox trail I took the spur from A to B (burgundy). At B, switched to the Red trail.
The trail had a couple neat features.
I believe to ensure usability after rainstorms & mudd the trail… Long about 3 to 4 inches wide by 3 feet long tree stumps were cut and place longer the trail to walk on.
In another area a cobblestone pattern was made by slicing large tree stumps.
I did meet up with a road hazard – fallen tree :-).
In this case, I did not feel comfortable going around due to the concern for Poison Ivy (not an issue for me but John’s always warning of it….) and Tics. I’m a tic magnet and I didn’t spray with Deet before hiking.
I ended up backtracking the beginning of the trail. Taking
The trail was designed for Hiking, Running or Biking….
Because of this a few biking challenge features was on the trail.
I decided that at minimum I had to walk over the bridges and pretend that I completed a huge feat.
Personally – with the wood features I think bike riding would be a bumpety bump bump bump and my backside would be very sore :-). Some mountain bikes have springs to minimize the bumpiness. I’m not sure if the springs would be enough for this trail.
Finally, the really cool fungus growth.
It was at least 1 foot wide and tall….
