Exercising for Donuts!!

Yesterday, we found Jack’s Donuts located in New Castle, Indiana. To encourage exercise…… We’ve already eaten the donuts from yesterday and are craving more… I told John – Donuts require exercise — 1/4 of a donut per 15 minutes of working out. (1 donut per hour of working out)

First, he tried swishing fiber pills in his mouth as a workout. He was disappointed to learn that I wasn’t counting swishing as a workout.

John finally decided that sponge curls would be the best workout. It was soo heavy he had to use a dry sponge…

More about Jack’s Donuts…..

We fell upon Jack’s donuts while looking for a Dairy Queen in New Castle, Indiana. The Dairy Queen is no longer a Queen and is now Dairy King (Google maps still lists it as Dairy Queen). Since DQ is now DK, John decided to try out the donuts instead.

We lucked out and went to the very first Jack’s donut store that opened in 1961 (Jack’s is now a Franchise with >15 stores). The store had 2 cases full of cake or yeast donuts with various fillings and toppings. Including glazed donut holes that were yummy (I preferred the plain vs. chocolate donut hole).

With some additional digging I learned that the donuts are not made in the bakery. They are made in the production facility owned by Jack’s Donuts that is also located in New Castle, Indiana. This probably explains why the chocolate cake donuts tasted a little stale and the regular ones tasted great. All in all – I’d eat them again :-). My guess is it’s a model similar to Duncan Donuts whose donuts always seems to be days old to me. Jack’s donuts were better than Duncan Donuts.

Overall, the donuts were very good. Though I’d still choose Linda’s Bakery located in West Salem, Wisconsin as the overall winner. Linda’s bakery makes the donuts onsite. Link to Linda’s Bakery: History of Our Bakery | Linda’s Bakery – (608) 786-1818 (lindasbakery.com)

Reminder to all – donuts are the best way to treat yourself after hearty workout.
