One of the sights to see near Brushy Creek State Park is the Oleson Music Pavilion in Fort Dodge, Iowa. It was built in 1938 in a Modernist style with Art Deco overtones. Its construction was part of the Federal Works Progress Administration’s attempt to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. You can read more of the history about it here and here.
There are a series of plaques on and around the music pavilion. It looks like the pavilion has been dedicated to Karl King and to Olaf Oleson at various times.
The Oleson monument has a nice little garden around it. I guess towns remember you fondly, when you give them lots of money.
There is also a koi pond on the park that is about 60′ x 20′ with about twenty 12″-18″ long multi-colored koi.
Of course, we have to have the obligatory selfie. I think she should have taken off her hat and posed so that the pavilion looked like an 18th century powdered wig.
