Relaxing during the Heat Wave

7th Ranch RV Camp, Garryowen, MT

When we were Yellowstone, the hottest day was maybe 80 F and that was probably only 1 day. Most nights were in the 30s or less. We did have a few in the 40s.

Ever since then, the temperature has been a minimum of 80s during the day and 60s at night. The first couple days at 7th Ranch was mid 90s to low 100s with little to no shade. At night we did get down to the 60s and air conditioners caught up.

The top number reflects the outside temperature. The 2 middle numbers is the temperature in the compartments under the trailer. The bottom number is the temperature inside the trailer.

Because of the heat wave, we were worried about what would happen to the cats if the electricity went out. So, we spent the days inside relaxing with the cats. John would state that he needed relaxation because I treat exploring (such as in Yellowstone) as a full-time job.

This blog is all about relaxation and dealing with inhumanly hot temperatures.

The first goal was to do as little cooking as possible to not heat up the trailer. One of the days was slightly cloudy. On that day, I did cook bacon, mac and cheese, and a chicken pasta noodle dish. I made BBQ pork before arriving. The rest of the foot was cooked on the grill or salads (John’s least favorite side dish)

The trailer has 2 air conditioners. We directed all the air to the front of the trailer during the day. So, the bedroom and bathroom became warmer than the rest of the trailer. We closed all the curtains to minimize heat from the sun. Cleo was less happy about the closed curtains because Cleo can’t be a good watch cat when she can’t see out the windows.

The cat antics are always enjoyable. For Mackie, it consisted of a lot of sleeping.

Sleeping
Continued with the cat naps
At least Mackie’s awake!

Mackie and John decided to both take a nap on the floor in a similar position.

Brenda made me a wonderful jean blanket a couple years ago. Brenda said that I had to share the blanket with John. This picture is to show that I do share my blanket 🙂

When the weather finally cooled off some, I did open the curtains. Cleo went back her normal guard duty role!

In the evening when the temperature cooled off to around 80 degrees, John and I decided to walk the campground. The campground has large number of birds. While we were walking, we found a ground nest with 3 eggs. John saw the bird laying on the nest and said the bird was meadowlark. John took a few pictures with the meadowlark laying on the eggs. Those pictures will be in a future post.

John and I are used to dandelions and seed flower created after blooming. We saw what looks like a dandelion seed flower, but it was about 6 inches in diameter.

The best part of the evening walk was the sunset. The sunset here are amazingly beautiful.

The campground is part of a working farm. In the morning, the cows are in pasture across from the campground.

That was how we survived those hot days and ensure the cats were safe. I hope you are enjoying the summer and your hot days.
