Mountain Meadow Wool Mill

Buffalo, WY, July 2025

Last time we were in Buffalo, Wyoming, I wanted to visit the Mountain Meadow Wool Mill. Unfortunately, we were not able to visit because we were only in town for 5 nights and we didn’t have time.

So, I had drag John to the mill along with the other errands of the day.

I didn’t really know what to expect other than maybe a large building. The building was not large and was located next to a cattle auction house. The building was split into three areas. One for the raw wool to come and be processed. The second part of the building was to make something out of the processed wool which including dying the wool. The third part was for tourist like us to learn about processing and buy goods.

The front of the building had a visitor center, an overhead platform to view the factory, information boards, learning video and hands on exhibits. John figured out how to use the miniature weaving machine.

They also had an exhibit on tools no longer used.

There was a video playing in the room where John was weaving the wool. It was a pretty interesting 5 minute video about Moutain Meadow Wool and wool processing. Link to video: Mountain Meadow Wool: 100% USA Made & Ranch Traceable

We then walked the platform and read about the process; the hard part was the information sheets weren’t always in the order of which the wool was processed.

Below information sheets was posted along the platform viewing area. I tried to somewhat organize them in order…

The mill had a store with a large range of items that could be purchased. I bought a small roll of yarn for Lauretta and will give her yarn when we visit next year.

The best part of all was that the Mill had 2 pet sheep named Lambert and Yarnold behind the building that people could feed with animal crackers. The animal crackers were located at the front desk.

Now, I’m off to the Buffalo Farmers Market 🙂
