Lawrence, KS, October 2025
In 2024, John hiked part of the white and blue trails, and, for some reason, I did not. I’m not exactly sure why. Potentially, my Achilles was hurting, or I went shopping 🙂
This year we did a little of each trail all on the same hike. John said that the red trail is new this year. We saw the red trail on the map sign where the white, red, and blue trail intersected, but the red trail is not on the park website map.

The hope was that the red trail would run along the water and we would have great water views. John said the white and blue trails did not have great water views even though the trail looks like it is near the water on the map.
Initially, I would have said that the red trail was going to have the same issues as the white trail.

The trail itself was in pretty good condition, which means that it is not overgrown with weeds and poison ivy. I will admit that John usually sees the poison ivy before me. The surface was mostly loose rocks from small to fairly large in size.
The good news was that we did see the lake on the last half of the trail. John talked about canoeing the lake. We both agreed that lake was probably too large to canoe across it, especially since we saw sailboats on the lake.

Have you ever seen Alfred Hitchcock “The Birds”. If yes, you would get what happened next. All of a sudden, the birds we saw in the water started flying towards us. Fortunately, they did not peck us to death or drop “presents” from above. 🙂

What I really liked was that we were able to see the sunset over the lake.

We had to get going so that we didn’t walk in the dark. But I did have to stop for one last selfie!!
