What do you do when it’s cold out?

Hillsdale State Park, KS, November 2025

Winter has finally laid it’s cold hands on us. Today the high is supposed to be 35 F with a real feel around 26 F. Brrr. Tonight’s low is supposed to be 20 F with a real feel of 13 F. Needless to say, I am staying inside where it is nice and warm.

Due to the cold, yesterday’s first activity was winterizing the camper. This means emptying all lines of water and filling the water lines with antifreeze for trailers. Not the antifreeze used in cars :-). I would say that I helped with winterizing, but I really didn’t. John is the master winterizer and can complete the process within an hour. Last time, I helped it took us 2 or more hours and testing of John’s patience. Fortunately, yesterday was not as cold (65 F) but very windy.

As the evening progressed, the wind picked up even more and the cold arrived. We did walk to the lake shore to see what birds were out. We saw a few birds but more amazingly we saw a 4-to-6-point buck swim across the lake. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera attachment on my scope to take a picture. This is the first time I have ever seen a buck swim across a lake. The sighting made walking to the lake in the cold weather well worth it.

That evening, I continued working on my paint by number project that I’ve had for at least 2 years and completed the main picture part. The next steps are to paint the side, spray a protective coating over the painting, and add hanging hooks. I think it turned out good but not as good as some of the others I’ve done, such as the family photo I made for Mom and Dad.
