Predictions vs. Actual

Beggs, Oklahoma, January 2026

John and I have been monitoring the weather forecast and prepping for the big snow and cold weather event. The news indicated 8 to 12 inches or more. Similar forecast predictions came from AccuWeather, Weather.com and National Weather Service.

The news and local government folks said to prepare for multiple days with no access to stores and other services. Make sure house is prepped for cold weather and plenty of food.

I had already planned to go grocery shopping on Wednesday early am. Turns out this was a great idea. We had to go back to Walmart that evening and the groceries shelves were barren. For instance, the cold vegetables bins were empty. No onion or potato bags. I didn’t look at the dairy or TP section. I’m assuming they were also demolished. I did see that all but 3 of the distilled water containers gone.

The snow was supposed to start by 3 pm Friday. We ended not getting snow until after 9 pm. The forecast said 5-8 inches. We ended up with probably 1 inch or so. On Saturday morning we could still see the grass tip through the snow. The temperature and wind gust was more accurate.

Saturday night was the 2nd blast of snow. A larger accumulation of snow was to fall – 6-10 inches. In actuality, we got around 3 inches.

The extreme cold did help by making the snow light and fluffy vs. wet.

The pictures on the left were taken on Saturday morning. The right-hand pictures were taken on Sunday morning.

Grass can be seen peeking through the snow.

We head 4 electric heaters running and were able to keep the trailer reasonably warm. The bedroom was the warmest. Following by John’s office, the living room and finally the bathroom. The bathroom does not have a heating source. Leaving the bathroom door open seemed to do the trick with keeping the room reasonably warm.

On the not-so-great side, I tried to start my car Sunday afternoon. No luck!! The battery was dead. I left the overhead light on. Newer cars do not have an obvious key lock location. My Tucson does not have a manual door key as part of the key fab. It’s a separate key you have to keep track of. To unlock, you have to a stick the key into a hole to the right of the handle to remove a cover. Once the cover is removed, there is a normal looking lock the key can be used to unlock the door. I’ll create a blog with pictures in the near future.

Cleo on the other had thought the best sleeping location was on the bench in front of the heater.

As for myself, I’m on the chair beside Cleo with a blanket covering me wearing long johns, shirt and sweatshirt. The trailer wasn’t cold (between 62 and 68). We just have a difference in opinion on what is cold and warm.
