Tyler State Park, TX, February 2026
For photos, not soup.
After seeing all the turtles on the first hike with only cellphone for pictures, we went looking for the turtles again to get better pictures. Since John was carrying camera gear, we decided to drive. At the floating fishing pier, we looked for the grebes, but there were three fishermen on the pier. They were bouncing the pier so much that we could hardly use our gear. It John 5 minutes to get two passable pictures of the kayaking kids. There were no grebes today.

Since that was a bust, we drove to a campground near the turtle pond, and walked the last quarter mile. Sadly, it was cloudy, and there were not many turtles. There were also a lot of fishermen out spooking the wildlife. The lake is not very large, so most of the boats are single or dual occupancy.

There were a few turtles in the pond, but it was well less than 20.

There were a few hanging out at the walking bridge floating in the water.

And a few on logs along the shore.

Without the sun, there were probably only on third the number of turtles. We will need to go back when it is sunny out.
Kate hanging out with her scope!

Kate has the advantage of 75 zoom with her scope. The stump turtles are closer but not necessarily clearer.
