Bogue Chitto Scraps

Bogue Chitto State Park, LA, March 2026

Several days we found very little when we drove the park to check the ponds. Either it was the wrong time of day, we were unlucky, or the weather was cloudy. These are pictures from the Bogue Chitto scrap days.

This day we found nothing but a few turtles near the playground.

Another day, we saw a lizard at the interpretive pond. It was very tolerant of being photographed. Our best guess is that his is an Eastern Fence Lizard that lost the tip of its tail.

There were Chipping Sparrows in the grass near the playground.

And a Northern Cardinal back at the RV.

Also, this bird was at the RV. Our best guess is that this is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. We heard them frequently in Yellowstone, but we hardly ever saw them.
