Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, AL, April 2026
After hiking, we ate and went to the beach.
On the way to the beach, we had to pass the sand dunes. The dunes were probably as tall me and home to the local mice population. We did not see mice but did see holes in the sand.

There was a wooden walkway through the dunes to prevent folks from damaging the habitat.

On the beach, within the first 5 minutes we saw a Portuguese Man o’ War. These creatures appear to be jellyfish but aren’t. If a human touches them, they can result in a very nasty reaction including stinging. Click on link to learn more: Portuguese man o’ war – Wikipedia

There were warnings all over, including blinking signs, that the water had a high risk of rip currents. Even with the signs quite a few families were enjoying the water.

One family made a castle with moat. The top of each tower had an item from the ocean. Too bad the gulf water will wash away their hard work.

Selfies of the day. It’s a shore thing that there will be selfies

An ocean video.
