Custer State Park, SD, July 2025
John would tell you that I have an obsession with 2 things. Post cards and cancel stamps. I did not collect my cancel stamp when we went to the visitor center at the entrance of the park because I was out of cancel stamp pages in my book. At Jewel Cave National Monument, I purchased additional pages and am now ready to continue collecting.
Since we were looking for the Lewis Woodpecker on a road next to the Wildlife Visitor Center, I convinced John that we needed to stop.
South Dakota does not have a book to for collecting state park cancel stamps. The visitor center recommended adding them to my National Park book. I’ve decided on a compromise. I added to page to my National Park book to add state stamps.
Custer State Park has 2 stamps. One that is the normal ink stamp the other is an embossed stamp with an elk on it. I collected both of them. Then proceeded to read the exhibits that talked about the wildlife in the park.

I believe the building behind me was converted into a visitor center after being used as worker housing for employees of the park.
