Wood Duck search at Bellwood Lake

Tyler, Texas, February 2026

Tyler Texas Autobom bird society indicated that Lake Bellwood was a good place to look for including the infamous wood duck.

First, we had to go under the railroad tracks. That said 7 feet but looked lower. I recommend turning up the volume before playing the video.

Wow that was fun and scary at the same time.

We continued driving down the narrow road looking for the elusive wood ducks with no luck.

At the end of the road was a picnic area and dirty boat dock. We saw at least 2 fishing boats and various birds. I think my favorite was the piliated woodpecker eating berries from a tree.

The lake had 4 trumpeter swans.

In Yellowstone, Canadian Geese were the rodents of the park. In Texas, cormorants are the rodents. The locals said that the birds will pick a tree and will do enough damage to kill the tree. We saw a tree that had at least 30 cormorants in it. The picture below is a small portion of the tree.

Unfortunately, no selfies on this trip. 🙁
