Poverty Point State Park has so many amenities like many fishing piers, fish cleaning facilities, parking and picnic areas. On top of this, the park has a large well-maintained marina with a store. The back of the store next to the minnow tubs had information related to native Louisiana animals, pelts and stuffed animals. Including the Louisiana Black Bear. I believe the items in the store originally came from the park visitor center that no longer exists.

There is a smaller pond just as you enter the marina that always has people fishing. I talked to one lady who let me take a picture of her fish. The fisher women indicated the fish were white perch. I think that is the same thing as a crappy. To get a feel for size, the “white perch” were in a yellow 10-gallon bucket.
