Full Time Camping Life: enjoying nature, family & friends with our 2 cats
Our dream has come true… In 2023, we sold almost everything and moved into our 5th wheel camper and started full time camping life.
We have always enjoyed the outdoors, seeing new things, visiting family & friends, and meeting new people (well at least Kate does :-)). We set a goal to live full time in our camper to do even more of what we enjoy.
In 2022, we found a reasonably priced 5th wheel camper that would meet most of our needs with lots of modifications and some repairs. To be honest, all campers need some modifications. We made a list of must haves and wants, and then, John spent 6 months making the modifications and repairs. These changes included
- Relocated the dining room table to the corner and replaced the chandelier
- Cat-proofed the trailer and added cat doors
- Added shelving to all the cabinets, dressers, closet, and pantry (twice)
- Fixed the many manufacturing flaws such supports not put in properly, shelves not screwed into studs, missing caulking, putting the refrigerator back in the wall properly
- Modified the bedroom closest to become a storage closet with a cleanable cat litter box compartment
- Added an extendable TV stand, reinforced TV support, cable and power conduit, air vents, and hidden storage cabinets for the Living Room Entertainment center
- Added game drawers to support the sagging Living Room Entertainment Center/Fireplace
- Modified the outdoor cooking cabinet to become an outdoor chair and bug tent storage area
- Redesigned and added shelving to other outdoor cabinets to hold all the needed maintenance supplies
- Added a bathroom shelf with towel hooks and dividers for the shelves in medicine cabinet
- Added a secondary 8-foot sewer hose storage under the trailer
- Swapped the built-in ladder for a stow-able short person ladder
- “Cripple-proofed” the steps to keep Kate from ending up paralyzed
