Great Day with Friends at the Park

High Falls State Park, GA, April 2026

Part of the reason we stayed at High Falls State Park was the proximity to John’s old co-worker and gaming buddy. We went to John’s friends house for a supper last week and Saturday they drove to the park to have a picnic with us.

John’s friends have 2 kids (3 1/2 and 6 year old) who I think enjoyed the playground the most.

Because rain was forecast for the day, we rented a picnic pavilion. I use the term “rent” loosely because we purchased the Adventure pass which comes with 10% off, 1 free picnic pavilion rental and 2 free campsite rentals. We did not have to pay for the rented picnic pavilion. If we had to pay, the pavilion rental cost was $35.

I really should have taken more pictures of the pavilion and playground area. But unfortunately I did not take any. What I did was put tablecloths on 2 of the picnic tables. On one of the tables, I placed a red, white and blue ice boat on the table for the cold food. Georgia state has banned fires including charcoal grills. Propane grills have not been banned. So, we brought our portable propane grill to the pavilion to cook the burgers.

We had food galore. The main was burgers with all the toppings (cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce, etc.). For sides and snacks, we had chips n dip, cheese n meat tray, and veggie tray. For desert, I made around 20 chocolate cookies. I think the cookies were the biggest hit. All but 2 were gone and there was 6 of us. I only had 2 cookies. So, I think someone had 4 :-). It might have been the little girl because she looked at me and asked if she could have another cookie.

Before eating lunch, we walked the trail along the water falls. I did remember to take pictures here :-).

Overall it was a wonderful day. All of the adults were exhausted and went home for an afternoon nap.
