I am beginning to think that turtles are not that smart. I have now saved 3 turtles in 2026. To be honest it wasn’t me. A guy with a cane pushed the turtle out of the road. So, I can’t take all the credit.

We are staying at North Pointe RV Resort located just outside of Selma North Carolina right off I95. The park has a very large pond with lots of animal life and at least 1 turtle.

I saw the turtle starting to walk towards the road. Once on the road, a car starts toward the turtle. As soon as the turtle saw the car, the turtle went into it’s shell vs. running back to the water. Fortunately, the car saw the turtle and drove on the grass to avoid it.

I went to turtle thinking it would walk away from me back towards the water. Nope. Went back into its the shell again.

Another buy came by with a cane who pushed the turtle off the road.

Once on the other side of the road, the turtle went to overdrive running towards the water. Please note that a turtle high speed is more like a very very slow walk for us.
