The Birds

Selma, NC, May 2026

This is not the Alfred Hitchcock version, but it feels a little like it when the flock of Canada Geese comes flapping, swimming, and waddling straight at you.

The RV park we stayed at in Selma, North Pointe RV Resort, had a large pond beside it with ducks and geese. (The “e” on Pointe means it is classy.) They sold duck food in the office, and the ducks and geese could smell it from a mile away.

There was one set of four duckling and one set of four goslings. We tried to get food to ducklings, but the mother was very protected. We could not get within about 20 feet of the ducklings because she would herd them away. On the other hand, the mother and father goose would his at you, as you fed them, and chase away any other geese.
