The James River runs south and separates the eastern cities of Virginia cities, such as Jamestown, Williamsburg, etc. from the main land. This means that you either have to cross a bridge, use a tunnel, or take a ferry. I’ve been told by multiple family members that all can be backed up if just one car breaks down. On the way home from Sandy’s, I decided to take the ferry.
In New York City, I took a ferry with my Mom, my Step Dad, and John to see the Statue of Liberty. We were passengers without a car. This trip was my first time driving a car onto the ferry. Unlike New York City, the ferry ride was free and runs 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. To learn more about the Ferry see the link: https://surrycountytourism.com/169/Jamestown-Scotland-Ferry-System
The ferry normally runs every 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I arrived 2 minutes after the ferry left. The ferry has a designated right lane with a stop sign and post for cars to stop and wait for entrance.

I waited for at least an hour because when the ferry came back a car had to be pushed off the boat. I feel bad for the folks with the broken down car because there isn’t a lot near the ferry depot.
While waiting, the sun was setting and providing a beautiful array of colors along the horizon.

The ferry operators open the gate and direct you onto the boat. Cars were loaded in a specific way to ensure balance. For example, X many cars on the right and same number of cars on the left. And back and forth until all cars had been loaded.

Chocks were placed under the front car tires for travel. The boat ride took about 20 minutes and was very windy.

The ferry had a 2nd floor that I did not investigate. Overall it was a great experience.
