National Mall, DC, May 2026
John and I have been to the National Mall many times over the years. Because of construction, we walked a different path, and we saw the horse stable for the first time.

The stables had 3 horses out front. One was named Cleo. The horses within the mounted service usually had a previous occupation, and they were donated to the service for retirement. Just outside the the coral, there were two books that list the horses and their history.

The first thing I had to do was get my cancel stamp, and then, I read the displays.
My National Parks book did not have a specific spot for the stable stamp. So, I ended up putting the stamp in the back of the book in the extra stamp pages.
Inside the the building, there was a volunteer and a ranger training to become a law-enforcement ranger. We also saw the tools, clothing, and information about the horses and Rangers. The Rangers are responsible for taking care of the horses assigned to them. This also helps build the connection between the horse and the Ranger.

You can see the 3 horses on display behind the information boards. Visitors could not get close enough to pet the horses. My guess is that it was for visitor safety and to prevent people from feeding the horses food that could be harmful to the animal.

And the best picture for last.
