Campground Information

• Large county run park that was in the middle of Reston city. The campground was on the smaller side compared to the rest of the park grounds.
• The campground had E50 and E30 campsites.
• The road into the park had numerous speed bumps that you cannot drive around. The campground road had lots of pot holes.
• The park had a dish washing sink at the bathhouse. The sinks were small. I found using the the trailer dish washing tubs with the sinks worked great.
• This park was the best price for the area. Cherry Hill wanted to charge 2 to 3 times as much. Bull Run county run campground was similar in price, further away from DC, and would not have great Internet (Starlink) access. The state parks campsites were too small.
• Most of the sites pads were a mix of gravel and grass. The grass is not mowed on a regular basis. When mowed, the mower does not pay attention to cords and camping gear near the mower / weed wacker.
• Many non-biting gnats
• The road had a fair number of hills and would not be conducive to easy biking.
• A lot of the online reviews indicate noise issues from the skate park. At site 19, noise was not an issue.

Bathhouse, Dump Station and Potable Water

• Potable water fill was located next to the dump station. Personally, the water was too close to the dump station and non-potable water fill station.
• The single dump station was located next the bathhouse in a valley. The road around the dump station is gravel. Overall not the best of dump stations but doable.
• The bathhouse consisted of 6 enormous uni-sex shower rooms with toilets, sinks, hooks and large bench inside. Plus, the bathhouse had women and men’s bathroom with multiple stalls (separate from the showers). The bathrooms were not cleaned on a regular basis and the hand soap dispenser were not routinely filled.
• The showers had adjustable shower heads and had very hot water. (Yeah!)

Internet

• Hotspot service was acceptable for TV and ok to not great for gaming
• Cricket service was acceptable for both TV and gaming
• Starlink was put on a 16 foot pole, had good internet service and good for gaming. Despite no obstruction, there was some packet loss. This might be due to population density instead of Starlink.

Sites Selection:

• Site 72 – This is close to the bathhouse, but it is surrounded by more campsites. This site does not require a detour, if the park is full. Rather than picnic table mounting, this site might allow RV ladder mounting for Starlink. It should be (nearly) unobstructed.

• Site 5 – This site is slightly further from the bathhouse, but no detour is required for a full park. The front left corner of the picnic pad appears to be a central spot in the trees that Starlink would be unobstructed. Starlink would mount on the picnic table.

• Site 23 – This site seems similar in tree cover to site 19, so it would probably function just as well. Starlink would mount on the picnic table. It is slightly further from the bathhouse, unless the park is full.

• Site 21 – This site is similar to 19 and 23, but the tree placement is to the east-ish. This makes it more likely for the tree to be an obstruction. Starlink would mount on the picnic table. The distance to the bathroom is slightly more than site 19, unless the park is full.

• Site 17 – The tree cover here is passable, but it is likely to be slightly worse than 19, 23, and 21. Starlink would mount on the picnic table. It is about the same distance from the bathhouse as site 19.
