Some campsites on Thunderbird Lake State Park are located right on the water, with full hookups, and with a cement pad. The campsite we picked had a perfect view of the water from the kitchen table and back window. The trees behind the trailer were full of birds. Birds were also along the shoreline. Cleo had a great time bird watching.

Campground Notes:

• The campsite we were on had additional parking in the middle of the loop.
• Campground loop roads are terrible. Drive slowly.
• No laundry facility
• Decent Starlink was put on a pole with a tripod. See campsite pictures
• Lots of birds and great view of the lake.
• Close to Oklahoma City
• Beautiful sunsets

Bathrooms / Dump Station / Water Stations

• Has eight individual, single room, gender agnostic combination bathroom and shower setups, each behind an exterior door.
• At least some of the showers were decent.

• Starlink: The trees at the park are shorter, so mounted on a tripod with a 8 foot pole, Starlink had a largely unobstructed view of the sky. The latency and speed of Starlink seemed to be good.

Driving Directions

The total drive is about 133 miles.

1. (0.0 miles) Right onto OK-44 South
2. (6.5 miles) Left onto I-40 East
3. (106.0 miles) Stay to center lanes leaving Oklahoma City, right lanes become I-35 N
4. (122.0 miles) Take exit 166 for South Choctaw Road and turn right. This road becomes 120th Avenue Northeast.
5. (130.0 miles) Left on Alameda Drive (Note: ends in water)
6. (131.5 miles) Left on Indian Point Road
7. (132.5 miles) Right on Little Sandy Road
8. (132.75 miles) Hickory Hills Camping Area

Campsite # HH009

The campsite was almost perfect with the only exception being tall trees behind the trailer. The picnic tables are cement and do not move.
