• We did not notice excessive poison ivy, but it is likely there.
• There is a gravel area on the near side of the street across from the check-in. There is 200 ft of car parking across the street in front of the check-in.
• The campground roads were VERY bad, drive slow.
• Some of the roads in the campground are narrow and one way, but people try driving the wrong way on them anyway.
• The maintenance is mixed. It is not one of the better maintained parks.
• First vehicle is free with a camp site reservation. The second vehicle is $10 per day. Compare prices with annual passes for your length of stay.

• Gift shop in the park office
• Canoe and Paddleboat rental at Calypso Cove across the lake
• Several boat ramps in the park around the lake, but they might be closed at some times of year.
• There are bathhouses, but they do not look sturdy enough to be a storm shelter.
• 202 RV campsites, of which 7 are WSE50 and 23 are WSE30, along with 142 primitive sites
• Hickory Hills sites 5 through 11 (HH005 – HH011) are modern with concrete pads and full hookups. Most of the rest of Hickory Hills is WSE 30/20.

• Hickory Hills is largely full hookups, but there are dump stations at Little Sandy, Post Oak, Little Ax, and Clear Bay.
• Hickory Hills and Little Sandy do not have laundry. Little Axe has laundry on the other side of the lake, 18 miles away.

• Naturalist at the nature center
• Archery range is on the north side of the lake. It does not provide targets.
• Kayaking is allowed on the lake, but you have to bring your own kayak.
• The hiking trails are not always well marked
• The road biking might be over some rough and/or gravel roads on the near side of the lake

Some campsites on Thunderbird Lake State Park are located right on the water, with full hookups, and with a cement pad. The campsite we picked had a perfect view of the water from the kitchen table and back window. The trees behind the trailer were full of birds. Birds were also along the shoreline. Cleo had a great time bird watching.

• The campsite we were on had additional parking in the middle of the loop.
• Campground loop roads are terrible. Drive slowly.

Kate was away much of this stay, and John worked on the RV. We did not take many pictures around the park. We will try to remedy this another year.

• Has eight individual, single room, gender agnostic combination bathroom and shower setups, each behind an exterior door.
• Shower house
• At least some of the showers were decent.
• There are seven WSE50, and most of the rest are WSE30.
• There is a laundry in Little Axe, 18 miles around the lake.

The campsite was almost perfect with the only exception being tall trees behind the trailer.

• Site is about 10 feet above the water on a dirt cliff.
• The trees at the park are shorter, so mounted on a tripod with a 8 foot pole, Starlink had a largely unobstructed view of the sky. The latency and speed of Starlink seemed to be good.
• The picnic tables are cement and do not move.
• There is a slight slope that may require a thin board on the driver side
• There is minimal room to hang over the back of the site.
• The truck was parked in overflow parking the middle of the loop in front of the site.
• If there are no cars in the middle overflow parking, it moves to fairly easy to back into the site.
• Nice view of the lake out the back corner of the RV
• Need to be closer to utilities to have more room between steps and the edge of the camp site pad
