I absolutely love the bald eagle because of their size, beauty and grace.

Did you know? The US added the bald eagle to the Great Seal of the US on June 20th, 1782. You would think this means the bald eagle was the US national bird. It wasn’t. In 2024, a bill introduced by a Minnesota congressmen was submitted to name the bald eagle as the national bird. This was one of the few times a bill had bipartisan support. The bill was signed on Christmas Eve 2024 by Joe Biden which officially made the the bald eagle the national bird.

Before 2000, Eagles were a rare sight in Comlara Park. Primarily due to the use of DDT and habitat loss. Between 2000 and 2010, the Comlara Park forested area matured and federal support resulted in more frequent bald eagle sightings including year round sightings. Now, bald eagles can be seen year round in the park and have regular nesting areas. Note to visitors: the park often closes areas with eagle nests.
