You would not think that garage doors are dangerous, but they are. They need big warning labels. Something like:

If you are thinking, “Wow, that was dumb.” You are not wrong. If you are thinking, “Wow, that looks like it would hurt.” You are also not wrong. Fortunately, it was a hollow aluminum garage door. If it was vinyl, it might have been about the same. If it was wooden, steel, or solid, it might have been much worse.

It is probably less painful than having your fingernail pulled off, but it is not clear how much less painful it is.

John has a friend whose wife is a doctor. The friend recommended amputation, so John asked for a second opinion from someone with a medical degree. The friends wife said, “Looks like you hurt your finger. If you can move it and you are not screaming in pain, it is probably not broken, and you’ll be fine.” Apparently, he does not go to his wife for sympathy, when he is sick. At least she did not call John a wuss, like his mom did, when he got stitches years ago.

It appears to be healing. The swelling is down some and the finger can mostly straighten and bend. There is some pulling at the fingernail, and it will likely come off before too long. It mostly only hurts right behind the fingernail, using it too much, or bumping it on things.
