Yellowstone National Park Day 7

Yellowstone National Park, May 2025

Todays plan was to get things done around the trailer and visit the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center.

The fishing Bridge Visitor Center was built in 1930 / 1931. The structure helped define what was called the National Park Service Rustic style. This building design was then used in other national park buildings designs. I love the rustic wood beams throughout the building. To me it seems fitting in Yellowstone due to all the tall pines.

Inside the visitor center, I went straight to the store to get my cancel stamp. I was hoping for post cards with a picture of fishing bridge, but I had no luck…

The middle part of the visitor center was filled with taxidermy birds and trout. The birds were very helpful for us to compare against John’s bird pictures.

One display included details about evasive lake trout vs. the Yellowstone endangered cutthroat trout. Fishing Bridge is the spawning grounds for the trout which starts mid-June. I’m hoping we get to see the fish frenzy in June.

The other section of the visitor center consisted of the history of the area.

What I was not expecting was to walk out the back door and have a magnificent view of the of Yellowstone Lake and mountains.

And my needed Selfie by the lake.

Afterwards, we went to the Fishing Bridge to sit and hopefully view the osprey. And hopefully see the osprey swoop down and catch another trout. Fun fact – osprey will carry fish head forward for aerodynamic issues.

After about 15 minutes we did see the osprey fly across the river. We had a great view of osprey in the tree with the binoculars. We did not take pictures because dark clouds rolled in and didn’t want the rain to damage our cameras.

Fishing Bridge bridge was built in 1930, and you can feel the vibration every time a car goes by. The bridge has large wood beams on both sides along with a walkway. On both side, a large log has a piece of pie out of it for a sitting area.

Afterwards, we went back and ate tacos and did things around the trailer and campground.
