Yellowstone National Park Day 17: Part 2

Yellowstone National Park, WY, June 2025

The first part of Day 17 had all of John’s professional looking pictures and videos. Part 2 is the informal selfie along with things I couldn’t resist taking a picture of on my cell phone.

The morning started out by seeing a mule deer in the campground. Mule deer are large and have black spots (like on tip of tale, ears, etc.) compared the typical white tail deer in Wisconsin. Personally, I think they have larger cute ears.

I actually drove the wrong way to get the picture.. No cars were coming and John is the only other person who saw it. Though I think John would have given me a ticket if he could 🙂

I was hoping to get lucky and see a Harlequin Duck at LeHardy rapids. Turns out the place was more than I expected. A long walking pathway along the rapids, porta pot, Park Ranger stopped by with fox, coyote and wolf pelts, etc. The Ranger provided information on where to see specific animals for our next adventures.

Cutthroat trout travel up the river through LaHardy rapids to spawn in the Fishing Bridge area. I’d love to see the fish leap along the rapids. Fishing Bridge sign (not posted in this blog) indicates the busy fish breeding time start in mid-June.

The path was mostly a wooden boardwalk. At the bottom was a dirt trail path that ran along the river. It was probably around 1/4 mile walk to the ducks.

Views from various points along the trail.

John didn’t know I was taking pictures of him while he was photographing the ducks and American dipper. Otherwise, I’m sure he would have smiled and encouraged additional pictures.

I hope you enjoyed seeing another one of our animal hunting adventures in Yellowstone.
