The Amazing Oklahoma Ice Storm

Even though we are done getting John’s Mom’s house ready for sale, we schedule extra weeks in Oklahoma at various parks before starting our trek north to Yellowstone.

Most of Oklahoma was covered in Ice and Snow as a result of the Artic Blast. Today, I spent 30 minutes cleaning off my car.

The unsuccessful first attempt consisted of 10 minutes of running my car with defrost on high. The ice was soo thick (around 1/4 inch) that I could see the ice melting to water underneath the ice but could not break the ice. I was able to take a very interesting video of the water melting.

Then I used the pointy end of the scraper trying to break through. Note I was unsuccessful 🙂

I went back inside and let the car run for another 10 minutes with defrost on high. I was successful this time by putting muscle behind it. The ice was still thick. I pried open the spot I was chipping away on the first go around. Then broke the ice in large sheaths. It sounded like I was hammering away on rocks. The ice was flying everywhere. The ice that hit the roof of my car froze in place :-).

The amazing part is by Saturday we are to be 70 F. Talk a temperature swing.

The best part of a Artic Blast is relaxing indoors and sharing a heater with Cleo.
