The three required stars finally aligned, and

• The park had an archery range.
• The weather was acceptable.
• We had a free day.

John went down the the archery range; it is about a quarter mile walk from the campsite. The range was moved to make room for the Pickle ball court. For some reason, they wanted the Pickle Ball court behind the archers and not behind the targets. Apparently, Pickle Ball players are wusses that do not like dodging arrows.

The range has a 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 yard target lanes, along with an elevated 10 yard lane. That last one might be practice for deer season for shooting from a tree stand. John’s performance was … mediocre, at best. The primary game in danger of being hit by his arrows are elephants and the broad side of barns.

Both photos are for the 30 yard target. The left one with 5 shots is pretty bad, except for the bullseye. The clustering on the right one with six shots is not terrible, but the accuracy is not great. He shot about 6 rounds, and lost an arrow after the first round. He spent about 30 minutes shooting, and 30 minutes arrow hunting. It was a bit like golf in that aspect. Well, golf with long pointy balls.

You might notice that one of those arrows is not like the others. John found the arrow with the red and white fin after about 15 minutes searching for his missing arrow. It did exactly what he thought his arrow had done; it slide under the grass tufts. The good news is that he also found his own arrow in a different location hidden the same way in the grass. The red and white arrow was significantly lighter, so it reliably hit well above the other arrows.
