Lake Murray SP, OK to Tyler SP, TX: Information and Driving Directions

Tyler State Park, TX, Mar 2026

Park Information

  • Going right around the lake to camp areas 1 and 2 (i.e., Big Pine Campground), has a bridge with a tandem axle weight of 12,500 pounds. This could be an issue for larger RVs
  • Going left around the lake has crazy hills and trees inadequately trimmed.
  • The majority of the campsite are on the small side.
  • Many of the campsites are unlevel to a frightening degree.
  • The lake is owed by the park, so a license is not required to fish.
  • You can rent paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and stand-up paddle boards.
  • There are 50 amp full hookup sites in Lakeview and Big Pine Loops.
  • 13 miles of trails and grounds are moderately maintained
  • There is a store in the park
  • There are several piers, bridge, and boardwalks. Wildlife includes birds, turtles, and raccoons.
  • The state park does not have a laundry.

Bathrooms / Dump Station / Water Stations

  • Dump stations seemed to be on the small side.
  • Water at site for Big Pines. Pressure and water quality acceptable
  • Bathhouse is shared between Big Pines and Lakeview.
  • Four shower rooms in back and bathrooms in the front. Industrial door knobs were replaced residential ones with a smaller collar allowing a peepshow into the shower at the knob.

Internet / Phone Service

  • T-Mobile:
  • Cricket Mobile:
  • Starlink: The park is heavily forested, so the best sites will still be partially obstructed.

Site 331

Site 331 is terrible. It is supposed to be a pull through, but it is short, narrow, sharp bent, trees and rocks on the outside, and utilities on the inside. There is no way that we would have been able to pull through the side. We ended up having to pull in and back out. It is also very un-level front-to-back and side-to-side.

Alternate Sites

See the post here for alternate sites.
