Dad’s Door

Sparta, WI, August 2026

Dad asked if we could replace the metal piece by the door because it was started to rust. Also, the seal under the door to the garage from the kitchen.

What this really meant was did John have time and know how to replace it. It’s not something, I would typically do. My approach tends to be calling the handyman to help.

Here’s the before pictures that I sent John to help understand the ask.

We went to Dad’s house and John removed the rusting plate. This gave John an idea of what to replace along with dimensions.

We went to my favorite store for parts (Menards) and then started to work. Dad and I gave John moral support. Dad stayed out of the way, answered questions and provided John with tools. I on the other hand had to take selfies :-).

Dads workshop came in handy with modifying the entrance plate length and other needed adjustments.

The picture below has the new plate. John was working on the metal plate that goes over the gray area.

Personally, I think the door sill and brush turned out great. Thanks John!!
